REMOVING THE SHED

At the end of the garden we have a lovely big shed, 10ft by 6 ft, as you can imagine it can hold a lot of.... rubbish! Well not really rubbish, but if you have not used it in years why are you storing it !
So it was with this shed, it had become the forgotten zone. A year ago we offered it to our next door neighbour who wanted another shed. Well like everything in life, it took longer than intended to get round to sorting out the contents.
We did spend a bit of time last year when we had the skip and threw a few things away, but in the end half of the contents were still inside.

Every so often our poor neighbour would ask, are you still getting rid of the shed? and we'd say yes , we'll sort it out soon.

So on Sunday I went and looked inside the shed... it was not as full or as bad as I had feared, so I started clearing it. Paul came along and helped and soon any boxes needing sorting through were stored under the carport and the shed was empty!!

 The dogs investigate as well.

Things were stored between the shed and the greenhouse which is on the right.

So on Sunday we gave our neighbours the shed doors and the roof panel's and told him , his shed would come in installments !

This morning Paul with the help of our neighbour took down the rest of the shed and carried it next door and re erected it in their garden.

So now we have this lovely space. Like with everything, once the space is available you discuss the options. One of the reasons we wanted the shed gone, was so we could store some of the larger plants that need to over winter undercover and free from frost. Usually we'd fill the greenhouse but that would mean we could not get into the greenhouse because the floor would be covered with pots and plants.
Also the shed reduced the amount of sunlight getting to the greenhouse, we did not realise just how much until the shed was removed!
We had been considering a small poly tunnel for the area but as I say, we have now had a discussion and Paul will build a structure that will cover the back area, across from the back fence on the left to the greenhouse on the right, This will give us 6ft by about 9ft of extra plant wintering space and still leave a decent area in front.
He will build it out of clear Polycarbonate, so the light will still get through but as there are trees around the area, it's not going to impact the greenhouse at all.

so this shows the greenhouse and back fence.

A rough, not to scale, drawing of what we intend to do before Winter arrives. I'm so happy that we have finally got rid of the shed and can now use the space better.

Paul's already moved the cold frame into place!!
