Well the day started wet! and rained all morning. So we went out to the garden centre and bought a lovely metal table and chairs set which we have had our eye on for a year or two. We nearly bought it at the end of last summer then did not went away and came back to find they'd all gone!
I was not sure if the same style would be available this year as the new style rattan garden furniture seems to be very big at the moment but fortunately we saw it was back on sale a couple of weeks back.
So it should arrive by next weekend and we are looking forward to having some nice comfortable seating and a table which will seat eight easily.
Finally it started to dry up and nice sunny skies appeared so we were able to get outside.
We had decided to cut down a Laburnum tree in the formal box garden, we do not like removing trees but this tree was not really doing very well and was also in an awkward place for getting round that corner of the garden, so it had to go.
Paul decided that today was the day and when out to remove it. I appeared camera in hand just when he was trying to cut the trunk down to just below the surface.
This is the corner already looking much bigger now the branches of the tree are missing.
The last part of the trunk you can see how far out into the pathway it comes.
Finally it's all removed.
Now you can see the empty space on the left of the bench.
A view down to the now open space in the corner.
The pile of waste from the tree.By removing the tree it allowed us to get into the corner and cut back a rose and a Honeysuckle and tie them into the trellis.
By opening up this area it's allowed us to put the Lemon tree in it's pot in that corner. The Lemon Tree is getting quite big now.
A closer view.
The damp shade garden is starting to fill up with a lovely tall fern beginning to unfurl .
The sun creeping into the glade.

Paul took the Aeonium Arboreum's out of the greenhouse to get some sun.
A close up of the flower.
The sun was suddenly missing as these Thunder clouds came over along with thunder , lightening and rain!
This tiny Epimedium was flowering in the circle patio garden at the very back.
We are really pleased with how this area is filling with early colour and little plants that like the shade.
a longer view.
Well a second set of thunder clouds appeared this time along with driving rain, so it was back indoors for a rest.
When we were out at the garden centre we bought a new small wheel barrow which we will need for shifting the sand when we lay the new path plus a few Pelargonium's four good sized and a tray to grow on in the greenhouse.
So a few mini jobs done but still lots to do!

You have been working hard, it's all looking so much lovelier now and it won't be long before you have visitors looking round it....I don't think they'll be disappointed, that's for sure!

Another good weekends work both in the garden AND spending at the garden centre! Looking forward to seeing the new table etc.
ReplyDeleteI took quite a number of cuttings from my Geranuims this year and apart from about three/four (taken far TOO late in the year) they seem to have survived the over Wintering in the conservatory ready to be planted out later this month.
Everything looks to be growing and coming along nicely with this sunny/showery weather.......although we here had rain overnight and early in the morning we weren't forecasted to have the south's thundery showers in the afternoon. When is your Church's open day then? July?
Ooh,lovely, need a little garden design help needed at our place! You xxxxxx PAUL puts me to shame (LOL I know you are the power behind the throne of the garden kngdom, really, Dee!)
ReplyDeleteLove that little metal greenhouse style cloche and IWANT A LYCH GATE - but know I won't get one!
