SOWING SEEDS

Today sowed some seeds to start off on the new heated bench.

A few that need sewing in February.

all nicely sewn.

you can see the new bench.

On the shelf below Paul has Five Ginger plants.

A view of the new bench running across the back of the greenhouse with the lemon tree and other plants in front.

  1. The newly constructed heated propagating bench is looking very smart and will hopefully give these seeds a good start in life. Would have been very interested in which varieties you have sown here today.
Will the heat from this also help take the chill off the rest of the greenhouse or not?
I checked on my Geranium cuttings last week that I am over-Wintering in my barely heated conservatory and so far they look as though they are doing well and surviving but I know that it is this month is the worst for them so keeping my fingers crossed that I don't lose any after all this effort
Were the 'Velvet' Twins helping you today?

    1. I meant to ask Paul want seeds they were and put that in! Anyway he's just given me the seed packets and he sowed Nasturtium 'tip top'mix,Ricinus,Echinacea,Dahlia Bishops children,Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy,Knautia'red cherries',Poppies,Lady's Slipper and Liatris spicata, so just a few!!!
Your Geranium's should be okay if they are indoors.

  2. You're the early bird...
here the winter has still power and we have cold nights. The last years I wasn't really succesfull in seeding early. So far I mostly seed directly on the patch in April/Mai. But I'm still a beginner in growing vegetables

(Just read about bad new invasors, small asian flies, who made the fruits rotting very early. Hope they don't survive the cold! )

  3. We have a thermostat which puts heater on , if it drops too low over night.
You could always start some seeds for your vegetables off early in a tray on the window ledge.
I hope the cold kills off the invaders that rot the fruit!!

  4. I like sewing seeds, imagining they grow and flower beautifully. Sometime succeeded and sometime failed, but it's fun.

    1. Yes it is fun to see if they grow and sometimes you get so many! More than you need, then it is nice to share them.
