So after disagreeing about whether the blocks should be placed upright or on edge, Paul said he'd dig the trench and I could put them in place and fill in behind them . This was because I wanted the on edge!
Once I'd finished Paul agreed that it was a good way to put them.
So we carried on and did the same to the other re planted bed.
The second flower bed.
Both edged beds.
This third bed still needs to be cleared of weeds and the plants divided and replanted, then edged like the other two sides.
The forth bed in the flower garden is well ,a shady one and most of the plants here do not need moving , just a little thinning and dividing and then edging. Then this area will be ready to go into the winter months with less work to do next spring.
We are hoping to start replacing some of the fencing on this side to match the new fencing we put up on the other side.
Well another decision was made today......
hard to manage due to the fence on one side the arch on the other and a raised bed to one side at the front, so by re designing this area it will open up that side and make it easier to maintain.
I must say that I thought that it was the house that was going to bare the brunt of our clearing out and redesign but it appears that part the garden is going to also get a redesign. And I am feeling quite excited about the plans we have for it.

My! You're certainly cracking on with the gardening, making good use of the continuing fine weather.
ReplyDeleteLiking the brick edging to the flower garden's lawn but won't it make the mowing it's edging much harder?
Disappointed to hear that the rose arch is going as I loved how that linked those first two 'garden rooms' together especially when viewing from the house. Couldn't a different species of rose be planted instead here and then the left- hand boarder be made into a very low maintence one?
(PS. Only me just wondering why the middle support of the left second-in new fence in this flower garden panel has it's centre support facing inwards whilst the other three haven't? Is this for a climbing plant to be attached and then allowed to grow up the fencing?)
It Paul doing most of the work. He loves to be outside when the weathers good and getting the garden done.
DeleteThere is a line of bricks in front of the new block edge that gives a mowing space before getting to the new blocks. We may also run a wider row of the blocks in front of these to give a bigger space between grass and border.
There are plans ahead for the linking of the two spaces where the rose arch now is and although it's had a good run, it's time for change and we can always replace it if the new scheme does not work.
All the fence panels face the same way but Paul's added some wooden supports to tie plants back to! I must say I was not happy as it does look like the panel's the other way round but he says that soon the plants will cover it and we will not be able to see it........ mmmm...
