MAGNIFICENT MAGNOLIAS

 

We have several Magnolia's around our garden but their are five in what we call the house garden, as in it's nearest the back door.

This , so far, is the biggest and the best. It's called Black Tulip which we had to move twice until it was finally placed in this spot in the garden where it was slightly sheltered.

A couple of years back we removed some of the shrubs growing to the side of it, which has allowed it to get more light and has helped it grow so well.

So many lovely flowers this year.

This Stellata is the oldest one we have and is a nice slow growing one. 

This Magnolia is called Susan , which we bought years ago in a garden centre sale, always a good idea to go round garden centres at the end of the season, when they reduce plants to half price , that they don't want to over winter. So for six pounds we bought a five foot tall stick with a few shorter shoots and now have this lovely tree.

This pink Magnolia , called Leonard Messel , is only a few years old but is growing nicely and gaining more flowers each year.

We also have a yellow Magnolia , that flowers later nearer to May and a recently planted one, that is supposed to have very large flowers and will grow into a big tree but so far no flowers. 

I would recommend a Magnolia for any garden that has some space. They may not flower for more than a few weeks but while they are in flower they are truly magnificent.

There are lots of lovely bds on the Magnolia's , which are starting to open despite the current cold weather.
