BANANA !!!!!

Well Paul was working in the garden on Sunday , around our jungle area, when he happened to notice that we have Bananas!!!!

There is our first ever banana flower...

and right behind is a bunch of bananas!! There probably won't mature enough to ripen but it's amazing to have them there!!!

Thats the banana plant in the middle it's very tall and is probably about six years or so old.

It will be interesting to see how far they can get in our english summer, we are supposed to get a ten day long spell of very hot weather maybe that will help them!

But we'll just enjoy the fact that our banana got some bananas!

TREE CLEARED AND STUMP PUT TO USE!

Well remember the fallen dead elder tree that was blocking the back gate?

All gone! They came yesterday morning and we could hear all the chainsaw etc and when we checked later lovely and clear.

The stump was still in place but Paul gave it a couple of pushes and it just came away, so it was completely rotten as you can see from this photo the holes going through the middle.

I had previously said to Paul that it would be nice to have an old piece of tree in the shade garden by the lychgate, he suggested using this but I thought it could be too big.

But by keeping it upright and putting in a corner it's looking good. paul planted a couple of ferns into the top holes.

 The view of the top.

Looking across from the folly window.

Does look like it could have always been there!

Looking from the lychgate.

another small piece we placed behind these plants.

So not only has it opened up the sun to our greenhouse at the back and cleared a space by our back gate, it's also made a couple of features for the shade garden, I'd say that was a good result from what could have been a small disaster !

We have noticed that there is another dead Elder trunk hidden amoungst the birch trees outside the gate, so we'll let them know about that to be safe.

FALLING TREES !

On Satureday I was putting some things away in the new winter store when I noticed that an old dead elder tree that sits behind our back fence on the recreation ground was no longer there!

Great I thought They have finally taken it down ! Then I noticed that I could see something across our back gate...

It was the Elder tree! It had not been removed but in fact had fallen down and was resting on a fence panel between our next door neighbour and us and not only that some of the top branches were sitting / resting on the roof of the shed we'd recently given him !

At present we don't think it's caysed any damage.

From outside our back fence this is the tree trunk covered in thick ivy laying across the entrance to our garden.

Paul had considered trying to push it off onto the ground for safety but it was far too heavy to move and could have resulted in an accident if he and the neighbour had tried! So of course it being the weekend , no one's replied yet to our messages to the parish council who are responsible for the ground and tree, But hopefully it will be removed soon.

This lovely Dahlia is now open.

One of the new Agapanthus.

Crocosmia Lucifer, looks pink in this but is a bright red.
